Members of bristol rising tide are succesfully blockading Aberthaw power station, Wales worst polluter. 10 Bristol activists have undertaken this as a joint action with Bath, Cardiff and Oxford activists as part of the international Fossil Fools Day protests protests against some of the worst polluting companies on the planet.

Unconventional Action Strikes DNC Headquarters on “Fossil Fools Day”

The Unconventional Greenwashing Taskforce, a band of locals affiliated with the anti-authoritarian network Unconventional Action, “greenwashed” the main entrance to the Democratic National Convention Committee’s headquarters on April Fools Day. The stunt coincided with over 100 creative actions called for by environmental groups such as Rising Tide, Rainforest Action Network and the Network for Climate Action. The pranks were directed at companies and institutions guilty of “greenwashing,” the act of creating an image of environmental responsibility for the public while continuing to engage in practices harmful to the earth.

San Francisco, CA, USA ATMs shut down

On the afternoon of April 1, Rainforest Action Network activists used “Bank Closed” signs and caution tape reading “Global Warming Crime Scene” to shut down 6 Bank of America and 3 Citibank ATMs throughout the San Francisco financial district. Confused customers thought the signs were real, and many of these ATMs stayed closed for the rest of the day. Bank of America - whose CEO, Ken Lewis, won this year’s Fossil Fools Award - is the biggest funder of coal mountaintop removal mining in Appalachia, while Citibank is the biggest funder of new coal power plant construction. April Fools Action Targets Road Expansion in Tucson, AZ, USA

Banners Suspended From “Snake Bridge” For Global Warming Day of Action

In honor of “Fossil Fools Day,” Tucson activists hung a banner condemning the proposed Downtown Links and I-10 Bypass highways from each side of the Snake Bridge at the intersection of Broadway Blvd. and Aviation Hwy. in the early hours of April 2. The banners were clearly visible for the duration of the morning commute, and were removed by city officials at 9:30 a.m.
