Plum Creek To Recieve April Fool’s Award For Contributions To Climate Change

WHAT: Members of the Native Forest Network will theatrically present the Plum Creek Timber Company with an April Fool’s Day “Global Climate Change” award to draw attention to the impacts of the company’s forestry and development practices on the local and global climate.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 1, 2008 9:00am

WHERE: Offices of Plum Creek Timber Company, 49 Mountain Ave. Fairfield, Maine

BACKGROUND:
The Native Forest Network is an all-volunteer group of people from across Maine working together to find out what Plum Creek’s Plan will mean for our communities and our future, and building just and sustainable alternatives that place the health of our communities before corporate profit.

The group will gather a crowd at the Plum Creek Office on Tuesday morning, masquerading as “Golfers for Wilderness Sprawl.” Seeking to raise public awarness about the hidden costs of Plum Creek’s resort development plan in terms of increased climate instability, they will present the timber and development company with a mock award, “in recognition of their profound and ongoing efforts to make Maine more like Florida.”
