WHO: Climate Crisis Activists and Supporters of Clean, Renewable Energy
WHAT: Fossil Fools’ Day Picket Line
WHEN: Tuesday, April 1st, 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM
WHERE: The Corner of Fifth Street and Nicollet Mall, Downtown Minneapolis
WHY: To Protest the Fossil Fuelishness of the Coal Companies, Oil Corporations and Electrical Utilities
On Tuesday, April 1st, the traditional Fools’ Day, during lunch hour from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, climate crisis activists and supporters of 100% clean, renewable energy will hold a picket line on the corner of Fifth Street and Nicollet Mall in Downtown Minneapolis outside of Xcel Energy Corporate Headquarters. They will call public attention to the continued extraction and combustion of coal, oil and natural gas by the energy industry. This fossil fuelishness on the part of the energy giants persists while the planet’s mean global surface, air and ocean temperatures continue to rise due to increasing greenhouse gas concentrations from transport, industry, heating, and electrical generation. This folly has already cost 4,000 American lives and thousands more in Iraq and Afghanistan in a bloody war for oil resources along with terrible devastation to our ecosystems everywhere that hydrocarbons are mined or pumped up to the surface. With the steady and rapid disintegration of Earth’s ice masses, it is clear that the continued burning of fossil fuels is heading us toward climate catastrophe if this destructive practice does not end immediately.
The Fossil Fools Day Protest is part of an International Day of Climate Action and is sponsored by the Climate Crisis Coalition of the Twin Cities, a grassroots organization.
